Reception
At Temple Learning Academy our curriculum intent is built on facilitating new experiences, ensuring quality learning and providing children with the skills to tackle new challenges with confidence and resilience as they embark on their journey within education through to Primary and then Secondary.
Our Early Years curriculum allows us to respond to children’s new interests and needs and it meets all the requirements in the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Reading in EYFS at Temple Learning Academy
At Temple Learning Academy, our reception children begin learning to read through daily systematic synthetic phonic sessions using the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc programme. Children will progress through this scheme throughout EYFS and Key Stage 1 until they are fluent readers. Personal one to one tutoring is also provided where necessary as we strive for all children to be confident readers and help them develop a love of reading.
This love of reading is promoted by providing many opportunities to share books in class, we use both fiction and non-fiction tests across areas of provision and children access reading both indoors and outdoors often enjoying sharing a story with adults and their peers.
For further information, click on the link below for the parents’ section of the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc scheme.
EYFS Mathematics
At Temple Learning Academy, we have an all-through mastery learning approach that begins with our youngest learners in Reception. Our vision is for all children to become master mathematicians who:
- Have a deep understanding of the structure and composition of numbers to 10
- Use accurate mathematical language
- Recognise patterns within the number system such as doubling and halving
- Can subitise (say the amount without counting) confidently and accurately
We use White Rose Maths to form our Long Term Plan. This is enhanced with our use of the Mastering Number Programme and CLIC to practice our basic skills.
