Temple Learning Academy - Library - 2023 (2)

Learning at TLA

Library

At TLA one of our main school priorities is to develop early reading skills and promote a love of reading for pleasure from EYFS to Y11. We have spent time develop two libraries in school and have invested in these spaces with a range of inspiring books, quiet areas to settle down to read and dedicated news boards.

In Primary, we have developed a wonderful library with a diverse range of books and authors. From the very start of your child’s journey in Reception, they will have dedicated library sessions accessing high quality picture books, early reading books and a space where a love of the written work is celebrated.

Within this space we explore current affairs through Picture News and First News. The Oracy Strategy is also strengthened through the use of this library space in dedicated reading, presentation and storytelling sessions.

As well as the library all Primary classrooms celebrate a love of reading with dedicated reading areas appropriate to the age and interests of our children where they can have time to enjoy a range of inspiring texts.

Temple Learning Academy - Reading - 2023

In Secondary,  our library is a special place- Lamptey’s Library, named after a former member of the TLA family- Hannah Lamptey. Hannah was an English teacher and created the original Secondary library at TLA. Her passion was literature, and her ambition was to inspire all children to have a love of reading in East Leeds. We are continuing this journey by creating our new library that will be used for years 5-11.

The library offers a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books for all age groups and will be used for a space for quiet reflection and a place to come and “get caught up” in a book. The library will also be open at lunchtimes for students to come and enjoy the reading materials and some games and writing competitions.

The official opening of our library officially was celebrated with Leeds United who supported the promotion of reading and fundraising for new books.
