British Values
As a school that serves a richly diverse community, we take our responsibility to promote community cohesion, generate a respect for difference and individual rights seriously.
Fundamental British Values are explored and developed regularly within the Personal Development Curriculum and through stand alone experiences.
Democracy is taught and understood through the Student Parliament and the election process. Within the curriculum pupils are given opportunity for group debates and freedom of speech and opinion is encouraged in a safe, supported environment.
The Rule of Law is understood by clear school rules, restorative practice, exploration of British Laws and the importance of a democratic society. Pupils are taught fairness and justice and how to solve problems amongst friendship groups. Pupils work regularly with the community policing teams and we have a police office on site who supports with a variety of areas.
Pupils understand and demonstrate Individual Liberty through our Antibullying culture (report it/sort it). The development of their self-esteem/confidence in all curriculum areas is prioritised. Pupil’s identity/personal beliefs is explored and celebrated and they are taught to take personal responsibility for their actions. They are made aware of basic human rights and their own rights and responsibilities.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance is embedded by challenging prejudice and discrimination, appreciating differences (faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, young carers, disability) and the appreciation of different beliefs (places of worship visits), religions and cultures.
