Oracy

We prioritise Oracy at Temple Learning Academy and weave communication into all areas of our curriculum.

Our vision is to develop our students as confident and eloquent orators, readers, and writers. By developing a wide range of skills, we prepare lifelong learners and enable them to be well-rounded citizens. We use our oracy strategy as our driving force to improve our students’ spoken language and vocabulary and prepare them for the world of academia and employment.

Oracy is at the forefront of everything that we do at Temple Learning Academy: we recognise that it underpins effective relationships. We know that language development is an area key to developing learning, links and a love of story. Our inclusive space ensures children with SEND feel supported and heard and know that communication goes beyond words. We are proud of the diverse heritage of our families and celebrate the wide range of languages spoken in our community. We acknowledge differences in accents and dialects; at the same time, we focus on giving children the tools to allow them to access and apply standard English grammar when necessary. 

We ensure that we deliver the best teaching, through a curriculum offer which focuses on the building blocks of communication skills: oracy, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing. We develop our students’ ability to speak fluently, articulately and eloquently, influence others through talking and collaborate with peers. Our learning environments are language rich - not only in terms of display & the resources available to the children, but also through quality spoken interactions between us all.
