Here we are at the end of another incredible year at Temple Learning Academy.

Primary Careers Week

Primary phase had a fantastic careers week at the end of last half term; they had visitors from lots of different sectors who were very impressed with the knowledge and ambitions of all students they met. They ended the week with a dress up day, where we saw medical professionals, animal care, emergency services, hair and beauty, businessmen and women, artists, teachers, sports professionals, musicians and even an aspiring Prime Minister! Well done to everyone involved and thank you to our parents and carers for your support as always.

The children in our Primary TLC went on a trip to the MENCAP Sensory Rooms at the start of this term. They really enjoyed interacting with each other and with their key adults from school and home. The children (and the staff!) had a great time.

Arts Council

Our Arts Council had a wonderful trip to Temple Newsam in June, where they carefully placed their finished wellbeing stones. It was lovely to see our Arts Council members take such pride in their creations and thoughtfully choose places in nature for them to be discovered and enjoyed by others. Each stone carried a positive message written by our pupils and we hope that those who find them experience a little moment of happiness, encouragement and support.

During the same week, Reception visited Temple Newsam Farm where they spotted the Arts Council’s wellbeing stones which they had placed at Temple Newsam earlier in the week. The children were full of enthusiasm as they explored the farm, and they also enjoyed spending time in the playground and finished the trip with a picnic lunch!

Catering and Hospitality

On the first day of this half term, our amazing Year 10 Hospitality and Catering students had the privilege of working alongside professionals at the Royal Armouries to host their own dinner for over 200 people. This event was attended by school staff, parents, carers and we even had a visit from The Lord Mayor of Leeds. Students worked amazingly well together, and showed their passion for catering and hospitality. We are so proud of the students who took part - this will be a lifelong experience that they will remember well into their future. We hope that everyone who joined us had a wonderful time, and we thank you for your attendance.

Duke of Edinburgh

Our Duke of Edinburgh expedition was successfully completed this half term for Years 9 and 10. Everyone arrived safely at the campsite and enjoyed cooking up their evening meal and the weather stayed on-side throughout the expedition, making for some fantastic walking conditions. The group unwound on the evening with some very competitive games of Uno and enjoyed some well-earned time with friends after a tiring day out on expedition!

Year 8 had a great day at the seaside in Scarborough at the end of June - the day was packed with fun and learning as students completed a beach profile investigation, counted waves, got creative with some sand art and enjoyed a competitive game of beach rounders. To top it all off, everyone tucked into fish and chips for lunch before enjoying a well-earned treat in the arcades and with an ice cream by the seaside. A brilliant day full of teamwork, laughter and unforgettable memories!

Culture Week 2026

We celebrated Culture Week across the whole school in the last week of June, and what a wonderful celebration it was! This was a brilliant opportunity for students and staff to share, learn about and appreciate the rich diversity within our community, as the school was filled with colour, pride and traditional dress! It was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the diverse community that makes TLA such a special place to learn.

More than 30 pupils from our Primary Phase have had 100% attendance since September. To celebrate this, they won a trip to Headingley Stadium where they met some Leeds Rhinos players, completed fun activities and enjoyed a special treat for their amazing attendance this academic year. Excellent work!

All of our Primary phase were involved in the Ogden Trust Science competition - they all built rockets and tested which ones went the furthest…NASA employees of the future?!

ACE Football

At the end of June, five of our Year 4 and one of our Year 3 pupils took part in an ACE team football tournament. Throughout the 10 games played, they were undefeated, winning 8 and drawing 2 games. They finished 2nd overall and their amazing talent and fantastic sportsmanship shone through. A great day was had by all, and the boys should all be extremely proud of representing TLA in such an extraordinary way!

Our incredible Primary Girls Dance Team took part in a special project to celebrate Windrush. They trained for weeks with Phoenix Dance and then on 1st July they took part in workshops, technical rehearsals and a performance to a packed audience at Northern Ballet. Well done girls!

Goodbye Year 11

Our Year 11 GCSE exam season ended with a leavers’ assembly on 17th June, where students said their goodbyes and marked the start of their summer holidays. This was followed by their Prom on 25th June at the Royal Armories. It was a fantastic evening filled with celebration, laughter and memories to last a lifetime.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the brilliant awards ceremony, presented by Isaiah, which had everyone laughing, cheering and reflecting on the unforgettable memories made over the past five years. We are so proud of each and every one of our Year 11 students and wish them every success and happiness as they begin their next chapter. We are very much looking forward to celebrating your successes with you on results day on Thursday 20th August.

Year 6 London Residential

Year 6 had a wonderful time on their London Residential. They explored the British Museum, went on an open top bus tour, a trip to Regents Park, Big Ben and finished with a performance of The Lion King at the theatre. They even had time for a meal at Nandos!

Jump Up to Year 7

We enjoyed two ‘Jump Up’ days last week where our new Year 7 students gained a real taste of what life will be like in September when they graduate into our secondary phase. Hopefully, the two days provided not only memorable but also meaningful opportunities, and we are confident that they are now all ready to return in September with a thirst for learning and a maturity of approach to enable the strongest possible start to their secondary phase journeys.

Sports Day

We held our annual Sports Day at John Charles Centre for Sport on 6th July – and it was ‘the best one yet!’ according to so many in attendance. Young athletes from Year 3 to Year 10 had great fun competing in so many track and field events but, as always, the most impressive aspect was the support from all in attendance – cheering every single participant across the line in true TLA style! Thank you to all of you that were able to come and support on the day.

Flamingo Land

Yesterday, we finished off the term with an amazing rewards trip to Flamingo Land for our Secondary Phase. They had the most fabulous day on the rides, spending time with their friends before we finish for summer.

Year 4 Swimming Lessons

Over the summer we will have our pop-up swimming pool installed again! This will be in place at TLA for 8 weeks in the Autumn term, and our Year 4 students will benefit from daily swimming lessons for this period. We can’t wait!

Attendance

We are so proud of our children and families who have had excellent attendance this academic year. This means that every day they will have had the opportunity to:

  • Build on their learning every lesson to feel confident and successful in their future assessments
  • Try new things like new topics and subjects
  • Take part in exciting trips and visits
  • Join extra-curricular clubs and activities

We encourage you not to miss any day at TLA - it's not 'just one day' - it's missing opportunities! To help us plan rewards and attendance communications, we would be grateful if you completed this parent voice form: TLA Primary Attendance Communication Survey

We look forward to seeing your child every day next academic year!

It has been quite a final half term to cap off another absolutely incredible, busy and exciting year here at TLA, and everyone has very much earned a rest.

Please remember, Tuesday 1st September is a Staff Training Day, and school re-opens for all students on Wednesday 2nd September 2026. Please ensure that your child/ren are here on the Wednesday so that they do not miss out on valuable learning opportunities that will set them up for a very successful year.

We hope that you and your family have a very well-deserved, fun-filled summer break and we look forward to seeing you all in September.
