Statement of Intent – Moral Purpose

Temple Learning Academy is passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people. We believe in teamwork; working with each other, with teachers and colleagues across the academy, with the wider academy community and most importantly with the young people in our academy. We act with determination. Whatever issues our young people, their families, the academy, our team or the community face, we always support, respond and pull together. Finally, we are committed to making a difference; we are not passive players in young people’s lives but active participants who can and do make a real difference. These reflect the academy’s curriculum intent statement and core values ‘Courage’ ‘Opportunity’ ‘Respect’ and ‘Excellence.’

Our moral purpose can therefore be summarised below -

  • Courage
  • Opportunity
  • Respect
  • Excellence

Secondary Wellbeing Leadership Initiatives

Mental Health and Wellbeing – Year 9 Leadership Programme

At Temple Learning Academy, we are committed to nurturing a culture of positive mental health and wellbeing. As part of our Year 9 leadership programme, all students complete the One Goal Mental Health Champion training—an engaging and empowering initiative designed to transform student wellbeing. Delivered by the UK’s leading provider of mental health training in schools, this programme helps students develop resilience, emotional awareness, and healthy coping strategies. Through interactive workshops and practical resources, students learn how to support their own mental health and become confident ambassadors for wellbeing within our school community. This training ensures that every Year 9 student is equipped to make a positive impact, fostering a culture of empathy, openness, and support.

Year 10 Student Wellbeing Ambassadors

Building on the One Goal Mental Health Champion training completed by all Year 9 students, a group of Year 10 students have been appointed as Student Wellbeing Ambassadors. These students applied for the role and were carefully selected by our Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead based on their passion, empathy, and leadership potential. As ambassadors, they receive further training to enhance their skills and are actively involved in promoting wellbeing across the academy. Throughout the academic year, they contribute to whole-school initiatives such as World Mental Health Day and work on a range of events designed to raise awareness, reduce stigma and encourage open conversations around mental health. Their work plays a vital role in embedding a supportive and inclusive environment for all students.

What to do if you need to speak to someone urgently...

If you are feeling very distressed or hopeless, talking to someone can help. You could try talking to a family member or friend, if this doesn’t feel right there are people who want to talk to you and can help. You can contact NHS 111 either by calling or going online www.111.nhs.uk. The Samaritans are also open 24 hours a day. In Leeds we also have free helplines, details can be found on the Mindwell website in the “I need help now section.
