For Students

Extra Curricular/After School Clubs

Temple Learning Academy - Netball - 2023

At TLA, we believe that extra curricular clubs are a very important part of school life as they give children a chance to try out activities which may form only a limited part of the taught curriculum. By becoming involved in an extra curricular club students can develop their own special interests and abilities.

Primary

We offer a wide variety of clubs which take place during lunch break or after school. Some are run voluntarily by members of staff, for other clubs we employ expert outside providers such as the ACE Sports team. In the past year we have been able to offer:

Lego Club, Toy Club, Colouring Club, Drama Club, Sports Club (Team games), Homework Club, Yoga, Craft Club, Pokemon Club, ACE Sports, Board Games Club, Computer Club, Book Club, Art, Film Club and Music Club

We run a daily breakfast club where pupils can start from 8am to support attendance and working parents.

Secondary

In the secondary phase school offers a dynamic range of extracurricular and after-school clubs, with new opportunities each term. A detailed timetable is shared with students through their form tutors at the start of each term. Clubs include Darts, Drama, Maths Challenge, Music, Science Club, a variety of Sports Teams, Cosy Reading sessions every lunchtime in the library, Cooking Club, Dance and Art Club.

We also offer Arts Council which is another opportunity for our students to enrich and enhance their leadership skills and creativity. To become an Arts Council member, students have to apply by submitting a piece of art and be elected. The Arts Council have recently completed an amazing community project working with Halton in Bloom, so look out for their decorated electricity box!

These activities provide students with the chance to explore new interests, develop their talents, and engage with peers in a fun and supportive environment.

Sports DayTemple Learning Academy - Netball - 2023 (2)

Our annual Sports Day takes place every July at the John Charles Stadium in Leeds, providing a fantastic opportunity for the entire school to come together and celebrate athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit. All students participate in a range of exciting events, from track and field competitions to fun relay races, fostering friendly competition and a sense of community. The day is filled with energy, enthusiasm, and pride as students cheer on their peers and compete for their house teams. It’s a highlight of the school year, where we celebrate not only athletic achievements but also teamwork and school unity.

House System

We are excited to announce the launch of our house system, an initiative designed to foster healthy competition, strengthen community spirit, and cultivate the core values that underpin Temple Learning Academy. Our school is now home to four distinct houses: Courage, Opportunity, Respect, and Excellence. This dynamic system promises to enrich our school culture, engage students and staff alike, and provide a supportive framework for personal and collective growth.

Inter-House Competitions

Throughout the school year, we will hold inter-house competitions each half term, ranging from academic challenges and sports events to creative arts and community projects. These competitions are designed to ignite school spirit, inspire teamwork, and provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents and skills. By participating in these events, students learn valuable lessons in collaboration, leadership, and fair play. There is a House leader board, which at the end of each half term, the House with the most points are celebrated.

Community and Engagement:

One of the greatest strengths of our house system is its ability to bring together students and staff, creating a sense of belonging and shared identity. Every member of our school community is assigned to a house, ensuring that everyone has a role to play in our collective success. This structure not only encourages friendships across year groups but also provides a platform for mentoring and peer support.

Inter-house competitions instil a sense of healthy rivalry, pushing students to achieve their best. The house system fosters a strong community ethos, where everyone works together towards common goals, celebrating each other’s successes and supporting one another through challenges. By participating in house activities, students develop essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and resilience. They learn to take initiative, communicate effectively, and build lasting relationships. The variety of competitions and activities ensures that every student can find their niche, promoting active involvement in school life and enhancing overall engagement and motivation.

We are confident that our new house system will not only make school life more vibrant and exciting but also help our students grow into well-rounded individuals who embody the values of Courage, Opportunity, Respect, and Excellence. Join us on this exciting journey as we work together to build a thriving and dynamic school community.
