Who We Are

Meet the Governors and Trustees at Temple Learning Academy

On behalf of the Governors and Trustees of Temple Learning Academy we would like to take this opportunity to add our own welcome.

Temple Learning Academy is a new and exciting school. Exciting because, whilst we have real determination to provide the best possible education for every child, we want to do so in innovative and stimulating ways. We want your children not only to achieve success at Temple Learning Academy, but to enjoy the experience of learning in a secure and happy environment.

Temple Learning Academy is a Free School Academy that was established by the Temple Learning Foundation, a charitable Trust. The Trustees and members are responsible for the success and financial sustainability of the Academy.

As Co-Chairs of the Governing Board at Temple Learning Academy we work alongside our fellow Governors in

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Co-principals to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

We cannot do all of this, however, without your support for your children and for the Academy. Please work with Mr Browne, Mr Hadfield and their colleagues, to build bridges between home and school. In turn, we will try to govern Temple Learning Academy in a way which responds to your needs and those of the wider community.

There has been considerable development on the school site as we invest in the future. We hope you will share our excitement and our journey as part of the Temple Learning Academy ‘family’. We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming months.

Yours sincerely,

Tim Kitching & Nneka Ikeogu

  • Tim Kitching
    Co-Chair of Governors/ Trustees

I am a director of Leading Edge Associates Ltd, a small company specialising in the provision of support for governance and leadership in schools and academies. My hobbies include reading, theatre going and history.
Having served as a governor in a number of schools over the last 15 years or so, I willingly accepted an invitation to join the governing body of TLA. Temple Learning Academy offer a vision of education which is exciting and different; it seeks to establish itself at the heart of it's community. As the governor with safeguarding responsibilities I am keen to see everyone is safe and achieves well during their academic careers at TLA.

  • Nigel Wood
    Governor/ Trustee

I currently work with disadvantaged young adults in an organisation called 'People In Action'. I set up the 'Trzone' Project two years ago following the receipt of a BIG Lottery grant. I work city wide on this project and manage adult learning, working with vulnerable adults seeking employment.
I've 12 years experience delivering out of school and off-site provision for disengaged pupils - this is my passion. Providing meaningful, creative and personalised learning programmes has motivated me to becoming a Governor at TLA. I find it inspiring and the opportunity to start such an important project from scratch really excites me.

  • Drew Rowlands - Vice Chair of the Governing Body
    Governor/ Trustee

I work with IVE (previously Cape UK) as the Director of Development in the school and business development sector. I spent 19 years in a school on the leadership team but acting is my passion. I'm a member of the British Actors Equity Association, a Trustee of Shakespeare North and a published author (Tales of an Ordinary Man!)
I joined the governing body of TLA as I really believe in the curriculum they offer. I want to see TLA as a centre of excellence in the field of creative teaching and learning.

  • Rachel Robertson
    Parent Trustee

My daughter attends Temple Learning Academy and is enjoying the education experiences offered. I believe this school can be one of the best in the area. There is a real sense of commitment and family values from everyone involved in the school. I would like to be a governor and be part of the growth and future progress that is sure to come.
My work for Johnston Press National Newspapers as an administrator and customer service advisor means I'm very organised and meticulous with details. I have great people skills and feel approachable.
My child's future is of the upmost importance to me and I am delighted to have this opportunity to make a difference in her education.
In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit and active and I'm a member of a local gym. I hope to be an asset to the school, dedicating my time to being a proactive and effective governor.

  • Andrea Smith
    Staff Governor/Trustee

I joined the academy in September 2015 from a school in Barnsley where I was Key Stage 1 and Early Years Leader. During that time I started my National SENCO Award Qualification and achieved this recently. This is great as I'm the SENCO here at TLA.
I volunteered to become a member of the Governing Body to be involved in decision making about the future for the school.

  • Matthew Browne
    Co-Principal

I love being Co-Principal and think that I must have the best job in the world getting to develop a new school from scratch. Day to day I work with pupils, staff and parents but the Governing Body 'keep me on my toes' and make sure we are always working in the best ways to achieve the best possible outcomes. They also keep an our budget to ensure that we are using funds appropriately and getting the best value for money.
Working alongside the Governors can be challenging as life in schools changes so often and so quickly. Governors need to be aware of these changes. I also see it as a time to share the good news, outcomes and provision we have in school. In other words, I get to brag about what's been done to support your child.

  • Richard Hadfield
    Co-Principal

Working with Governors, staff, pupils and families at Temple Learning Academy is such an exciting privilege. Our Academy is a truly special place, an innovative all-through school at the heart of our community. I am passionately committed to our shared values, our overarching ethos of equality, our celebration of diversity and our belief in the individuality and unique potential of each child. Co-Principal Browne and I work closely together and we work closely with Governors to ensure that we provide the best possible leadership and management for the benefit of all our pupils.
Our Governors are a fantastic team who champion the ideas and ambitions of all our parents and all our stakeholders. They have the local community, families and children’s interests at the heart of everything they do. They have been instrumental in building our Academy from the very beginning and they have turned our vision into reality.
Governors make regular visits to our Academy and hold meetings to review the quality of everything that we do for our pupils. They really care about pupils’ safety, learning and development. They know how well we are doing and what we need to do next to improve. They check that Mr Browne and I are providing the best possible curriculum for our children and that we are spending our money wisely. We find it extremely helpful when Governors challenge us to explain our decisions and we are very proud when Governors can celebrate our Academy’s successes.

  • Tonia Thomas
    Parent Governor/ Trustee

I am currently a policy administrator for a work place pension provider. I am married to David and have two children, one grown up and one in Phase 3 at TLA. I enjoy fitness and love reading and socialising. I have lived on Halton Moor for 12 years now and grew up in Halton.
I became a parent Governor because I want to have more input into how my child's school is run for the benefit of all children and parents. I also wish to gain a deeper understanding of what happens behind the scene. I want to ensure that all of our children feel valued, are treated as individuals and develop self-confidence so they can reach their full potential at school and beyond.
Working as a policy administrator I am used to attending meetings, making my views heard and learning new skills. I feel well suited to the role of Parent Governor and I'm committed and looking forward to helping TLA on it's exciting journey becoming the very best school it can possibly be.
