Dear Parents and Carers,

In recent conversations with pupils and concerns raised from parents about issues at home we would like to draw your attention to two issues that are having a negative impact on children – at home and at school.

The first revolves around a game called Fortnite:Battle Royale.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is a game which combines Minecraft-style building with shooting for survival. It has been described as ‘Call of Duty for kids’ and has 40 million players worldwide. It can be played on the PC, Xbox or Playstation.

Although this is a 12+ rated game, unsuitable for children at our school in Year 1 and Year 2, we know many are playing this at home and talking about it in the playground. We have noticed an increase in fighting type games in the playground with children inventing their own ‘Fortnite’ type games. Head Lice

Dear Parents and Carers,

Some children are coming into or home from school with head lice. We can only get rid of these if you treat them at home.

It is important you treat head lice as soon as you spot them. You should check everyone in the house and treat them on the same day if they have head lice.

There’s no need to keep your child off school if they have head lice.

You can use medicated lotions and sprays that kill head lice in all types of hair. You can buy these from pharmacies, supermarkets or online.

Head lice should die within a day. Lotions and sprays come with a comb to remove dead lice and eggs.

Some treatments need to be repeated after a week to kill any newly hatched lice. Check the pack to see if they’re OK for you or your child and how to use them.
